In Fall 2025, we launched a community-led literacy intervention program: the Eagles Reading Club (ERC), modeled after our highly successful former Reading Results program.
ERC uses Reading Results' proven methods, backed by the science of reading and low-cost University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) materials, integrating decodable books and take-home practice materials.
- Serves up to 24 students across five grades, with the goal of measurable progress toward grade-level reading
- Staffed by three tutors and a program manager
- A 29-week program, October through May; tutors work with pairs or one-on-one, three times per week
- Monthly progress reports to teaching staff, collaboration with the Abernethy reading specialist, and reports to the PTA mid-year and end-of-year
The PTA funds ERC with a $50/day stipend per volunteer plus startup materials (manuals, books, supplies). The program is designed to be sustainable through volunteer parents, grandparents, and community tutors who mentor new volunteers โ to "depend on the will of our community spirit rather than the whim of politics or funding."
We made this happen!
