Give & Volunteer

The PTA runs on volunteer time and community generosity. Both are welcome in any amount.

Become a volunteer — three steps

  1. Get a background check — a five-minute online form, required before volunteering in the building (including field trips!). Wait for the PPS approval email.
  2. Join the PTA — optional, but it lets you vote at Community Meetings and covers you with insurance for Bike Bus corking, sweeping, or leading.
  3. Join Konstella — where every volunteer opportunity is posted. It's the place to be!

PTA Clothing Center volunteer days

Abernethy sends 5–6 volunteers to the PPS PTA Clothing Center to help families shop for free clothing and shoes. Our 2026–27 dates:

  • Monday, September 14, 2026
  • Monday, January 11, 2027

Volunteers come from 9:30am–1:30pm — this gives time for a quick orientation before families arrive to receive clothing, and some time after to tidy up. Families shop for their students from 10:00am–1:00pm.

Sign up on Konstella. The Clothing Center has moved to Room A-21 at the Marshall Campus, which has its own outside door: enter the campus from SE 92nd & Powell, head straight back past the three dumpsters and the loading dock, and look just behind the brick outcrop building — the door is to the right of the locked double doors, next to a faded orange roll-up door and a metal vent (it's yellow with a sign when open, plus a sidewalk sign). Heads up for volunteers: per the new PPS lease, families receiving clothing may not use the school restrooms — volunteers may.

Donate

Donate to the PTA

Your dollars fund community events, classroom and arts support, the Eagle Reading Club and Mini Grants, grounds and garden care, teacher appreciation, and help for families in need. The Annual Appeal — our biggest direct-giving drive — kicks off Monday, November 2, 2026: give online, or send cash/check (payable to Abernethy PTA, with your student's name and grade) to the office at 2421 SE Orange Ave.

The Abernethy Century Campaign is raising $50K to fund the centennial mural and the next century — check it out.
